Description
The ESF webinar “Keep your lungs safe - The underestimated risk of dust” will be an informative session about the dangers related to particle exposure at the work place. The basics of particles and aerosols will be explained by Janina Sander who specialized in particle technology in her studies. She will explain some physical background information and explain why small particles are critical to consider in occupational health assessments. After that we will learn from Dr. Remko Houba about the health effects that are observed with workers who had particle exposure in the workplace. He will provide real-world examples of diseases in relation to particle size. Besides he will present some research on health effects of particle exposure including some epidemiological data. A conversation between Aart-Jan Van Ek and Janina Sander will already answer a series of practical questions, and in the Q&A session you will be able to address all your question about particle exposure to our speakers.
Programme:
- Basics about particles and aerosols
- Health effects of occupational particle exposure
- Epidemiological data of particle related occupational diseases
- Real-world examples of effects of occupational particle exposure
Speakers:
| Remko Houba (PhD) is an occupational hygienist at the Netherlands Expertise Centre for Occupational Respiratory Disorders (NECORD) participating in a multidisciplinary team within a patient clinic. In addition, he is working on research projects in close cooperation with IRAS (Utrecht University) and also working as occupational hygiene consultant for companies. Main focus is on chemical and biological exposure assessment and risk assessment. Exposure to particles is a relevant topic with health effects both on individual level (patient clinic) and on group level (population at risk). | ![]() |
